Aaron Rosenthal, composer

Boston-based composer Aaron Rosenthal (b. 1975) is probably best known for his choral work Voices of Terezin, a setting of 3 children's poems from the well known Holocaust art and poetry collection I Never Saw Another Butterfly.  This piece, first prize winner of the New England Choral Consortium Composition Contest, has received performances on four continents and is published in versions for women's and mixed chorus.  Rosenthal's other music has been recognized with several awards including the ASCAP Young Composers Prize (for String Quintet), the University of Delaware New Music Award (Brass Quintet), and the New England Reed Trio Composition Contest (Loco Rococo).   Rosenthal's musical pursuits stretch to other genres, as evidenced in his alternative-rock band The Fair Enough (www.thefairenough.com).  As songwriter, keyboard player, and singer, he has performed with The Fair Enough in major venues in New York City and all around New England.  This past June, Rosenthal released his CD Postludes, a collection of his performances of his original piano music. More information about these and other works can be found online at www.rosenthalmusic.com.

A former student of Lukas Foss and John Harbison, Rosenthal received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition from Boston University, where he graduated summa cum laude.  He also holds a Master's Degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and has begun work toward the
Doctorate in Musical Arts at Boston University.
