We are excited to be joined for both performances by guest violinist Esther Noh
Violinist Esther Noh has garnered acclaim for her achievements as a classical and alternative music performer. She won the Audience Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in Denmark, first prize in the Julius Stulberg International String Competition, and second prize in the Ima Hogg International Concerto Competition. She has soloed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony, and the Danish National Philharmonic. In April 2007, she performed at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall as part of the elite Kronos Quartet Professional Training Workshop.
Ms. Noh holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the University of Michigan School of Music. She received her doctorate with honors from SUNY Stony Brook in May 2007, and is a member of the Brooklyn Philharmonic. She was the visiting professor of violin at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas and concertmaster of the Wichita Symphony from January 2004-May 2005.
As a chamber musician, she won first prize in the junior division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and has participated in residencies in Banff, Canada, the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Musicorda Summer Festival in Massachusetts. She has given quartet workshops at University of Texas San Antonio and Wichita State University and was a member of the resident quartet for the University of Michigan Contemporary Ensemble. Ms. Noh has also performed numerous new music concerts with groups such as Bang on a Can, Brave New Works, and the Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players.
Ms. Noh is also an active champion of improvised and alternative music. She has worked with John Zorn, Mark O' Connor, and Edgar Meyer, as well as many singer/songwriters throughout the country. She has given concerts at the Tonic Club, The Cutting Room, Roulette, The Stone, and CBGB's in New York City. She is featured on recordings with Karl Berger, John Lindberg, and Ed Sarath, and on several independent film soundtracks.
